Hi, I am Ümit.

I am a learning scientist who loves thinking about how people think about things that are complex and counterintuitive. I earned my PhD in learning sciences from Northwestern University in 2026. My research develops computational and qualitative methods for studying how people reason about complex systems — and translates those insights into programming environments, beginner-friendly resources, computational models, and curricular activities that help students and teachers think with complexity, not just about it.
